BornAgain is distributed on PyPI as wheels for supported Python versions on Windows.
Prepare an isolated Python environment before installing BornAgain.
Run these commands in PowerShell or Command Prompt (cmd).
The package manager selects the compatible wheel.
BornAgain’s core dependencies are installed automatically with the wheel.
Install optional packages (fabio, lmfit, periodictable, etc.) manually
when needed.
Replace path\to\venv below with the path to the virtual environment.
With uv, select the environment’s Python interpreter explicitly:
uv pip install --python path\to\venv\Scripts\python.exe bornagain
If the environment provides pip, use its Python interpreter directly:
path\to\venv\Scripts\python.exe -m pip install bornagain
Activate the environment in PowerShell:
path\to\venv\Scripts\Activate.ps1
or in Command Prompt (cmd):
path\to\venv\Scripts\activate.bat
Then install BornAgain with uv:
uv pip install bornagain
or with the environment’s pip:
python -m pip install bornagain
For conda:
conda activate path\to\env
python -m pip install bornagain
